What we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Last updated 9 September 2026

We ask parents for personal information, and some of it is about their children. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who we are

The Banyan Tree Kids Club, Mumbai, India. We run general knowledge classes for children, in our own centres, through independently run partner centres, and online.

For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary for the information described here.

Questions or complaints: info@banyantreegkclasses.com or +91 91367 20431.

What we collect

  • When you enquire — your name, phone number, email if you give it, your child’s first name and age, and the area you are in. Usually over WhatsApp.
  • When your child joins — the same, plus emergency contact details, anything you tell us about allergies or medical needs, and attendance.
  • When you apply to teach — your name, contact details, area or pincode, and what you tell us about your background.
  • When you visit this website — standard analytics: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser.
  • Photographs and video — only with your written consent, given separately and for a stated use.

Children’s information

We only collect a child’s first name, age, and anything you choose to tell us about their needs. We collect it from you, not from your child.

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we process a child’s personal data only with verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian. You can withdraw that consent at any time.

We do not track children, monitor their behaviour, or direct advertising at them.

Why we collect it

To answer your enquiry, arrange a trial class, enrol your child, run the class safely, contact you about schedules and fees, and — if you have agreed — to tell you about new batches, camps or the magazine. You can opt out of that last one at any time.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.

WhatsApp

Most enquiries reach us on WhatsApp. Those messages are carried on WhatsApp’s own service and are subject to their privacy terms as well as ours. We keep enquiry conversations so we can pick up where we left off.

Partner centres

Some of our centres are run by independently trained educators under The Banyan Tree Teachers Collective.

If you enquire about one of those locations, we pass your enquiry to that educator so she can respond. She uses it to contact you about her classes, and is required to handle it in line with this policy.

Photographs and video

We photograph and film classes for our website, social media and YouTube. We only do this with written parental consent, given for the specific use.

Consent for one channel does not extend to another: consent for Instagram does not cover this website. You can withdraw consent at any time and we will stop using the material going forward, though we cannot always recall what has already been shared publicly.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was given, and for any period the law requires us to. Consent records are kept for as long as we hold the material they cover. If you would like to know how long we hold a particular record, write to us and we will tell you.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you and your child
  • correct anything wrong or out of date
  • erase it, where we are not required to keep it
  • withdraw consent you have given
  • nominate someone to exercise these rights if you cannot

Write to info@banyantreegkclasses.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Cookies

This site uses essential cookies, and cookies set by anything we embed, such as analytics or a YouTube video.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above and, where the change matters, tell you directly.

Ask us anything

Most parents start with a message

We will answer your questions on a message or a call, and you can book a trial class if it feels right.
